Rashi Anand is a young social activist in India engaged in providing better childhood to the underprivileged street kids. With this aim she and her mother established a NGO Lakshyam in 2005 for children welfare, education, health, and women empowerment. The street children being extremely poor are most likely to get engaged in anti social activities like begging, drug trafficking, pick pocketing, prostitution etc. There are more than 1 lac street kids in Delhi alone. So, a huge part of our society is likely to go in the wrong direction. Rashi Anand observed that these poor kids are not always doing the wrong thing willingly but they are driven by their circumstances. Rashi wanted to give these kids a chance at a normal life. So she decided to start an NGO for them and named it Lakshyam.

Questions like What would be the future of these children? Would they go to schools? Rashi’s Inspiration

When Rashi was a young girl of 18, she became a member of the board of Lakshya, an organization formed by her mother Poonam Anand. Rashi sees her mother as her role model, and has utilized all the trips made along her mother to the rural areas of the country. Rashi’s contribution to the society seems to be a result of an inspiration from her social activist mother.

Initial Setbacks

Initially, Rashi Anand faced two major problems. First, very few people took her plans seriously. Most of the people viewed that running an NGO is a job of an old person and not of a youngster like her. Second, she had to build trust and reputation of her organization. Rashi coped with these troubles due to her passion for it and moral support of her friends and family.
