When Manisha Girotra started her career in investment banking around 17 years ago, the businessmen she met hesitated to shake hands with her. Men who showed etiquette folded their hands for a ‘namaste’ and wondered how to respond to a woman entrepreneur like her . Manisha is now proudly taking up roles of the Managing Director and Chairperson for Swiss bank UBS in India. She is in the list of ‘The most powerful business women in India.’
After completing her graduation from the Delhi School Of Economics, Manisha was hired by the Grindlays Bank. She was then allocated investment banking division. Manisha Girotra often done the role of a pizza delivery girl in the same office!
Like many girls in India, Manisha was married at the young age of 24. Her husband Sanjay Agarwal is the head of the finance department at Deutsche Bank in India. Manisha had tough times when her husband was posted in Delhi while she had to settle in Mumbai. After more than a year in Mumbai in Grindlays Bank, she was offered job by UBS bank in investment banking.
At the young age of 33, Manisha Girotra became the CEO at UBS. This was her first step towards growth, another major change in her life happened after her birth of her daughter Tara. Manisha managed these two big responsibilities of her life quite efficiently. But working for 20 hours a day with a little baby was really challenging for her. She admits, in her 25 years of her professional life, this was the toughest time for her. She remembers, just after four months of her delivery, she would pack the bags with her baby and go to work with her. She kept her in a hotel near her office and juggled her work and took care of the baby!
After 20 years of job at UBS, Manisha Girotra finally bid adieu tobher job to help her ex-boss set up at Moelis. Currently she is the country head CEO of India for Moelis and Company.
